Agnès Varda - Jane B. par Agnès V. (1987)
In many chronicles concerning myself, I have often read that my practice of magic was attributed to the skill I had little by little acquired in cinematographic special effects. What a mistake! In conjuring, we operate under the watchful eye of the public, to whom no false movement escapes… while in the cinema, we quietly create our own little kitchen, far from secular eyes, and we redo things 36 times, if necessary, until we have succeeded. This allows you to go much further in the field of the marvelous. (from Méliès, magie et cinéma, by Jacques Malthête and Laurent Mannoni).
